Frozen Dishes : life after the ice

race day

On Christmas morning each year the race around the world is held.  Anyone can run, walk, ski, ride in or be pulled by a vehicle.  About 20 people lounged on couches on a flat bed being pulled by a large tractor.  I raced with some friends dressed as reindeer.  We roped ourselves together and walked the course.  Needless to say, we didn't win.  It was a good time nonetheless.  I'll be posting more photos soon.  Evil ice cream machine update: half of the machine is down. Currently only vanilla is offered.  Unsure when it will once again pass out both flavors.

Another beautiful day. -5, -33 w/c. Summer here indeed. After many days of cancelled flights, due to bad weather, we are once again getting planes here at the pole. The Christmas presents were a few days late, but on Thursday we got a big mail shipment in. One of my friends back home sent me a 2 ft walking doll. I haven't tried it out yet, but the pictures on the box are pretty creepy. Apparently this thing follows you around without the aid of batteries. Plans are already in the works to shoot a movie staring this odd thing. Speaking of movies, I haven't started editing the honey bear flick yet, because I lent my camera out recently. I have the soundtrack laid out in my head and am anxious to start the next phase. The film festival has been pushed back to the 17th of January, so I have plenty of time to get it dialed in. Hey if you're looking for a cool site about Antarctica check out "bigdeadplace.com". An awesome site indeed. Ice cream machine update: out of comission, possibly for the entire day.  The natives are restless.

Well, the movie is on tape.  Took me all night to shoot it.  It was a warm enough night, but my hands still got chilly and my batteries failed quckly.  Now the fun of editing starts.  I'm happy with how it looks on tape though.  The stop animation feature on my camera worked like a charm.  Got to say the sex scene at the pole turned out great.  Who knew the honey bear had such good moves?  I guess when you're getting busy with a bottle of hot sauce things are bound to get hot.

Another beautiful day out.  -9, -47 wind chill.  Tonight is my night off.  Always a glorious thing.  Tonight I'm shooting my entry for our South Pole short film festival being held in January.  My tale is about a Honey Bear (little plastic Clover Honey jar) that is trying to get laid.  No actors, just various condiments.  I'm shooting it in stop motion animation.  It might be an editing nightmare, but I feel it is a story that must be told.  I'll keep you posted on the production of this epic shoot.

Outside it's a balmy -6, with a -33 wind chill. Not too bad actually. Cleaned the ice cream machine today. It went smoothly, but overall still a pain in the ass. That thing is truly the bane of my existence. Everyone loves the sweet treat it doles out. Tragedy strikes whenever the machine ever goes down.  Proper maintenance keeps the frozen dairy junkies at bay.
